Snow Settling Levels

Snow settling levels should be used in conjunction with forecast rainfall and atmospheric instability, snow levels will only be reliable when there’s a reasonable chance of showers/rainfall. The snow settling level is derived from the 850mb temperature and geopotential height and modelled against observed snow settling levels, there is error inherent in such modelling - which feeds into the Snow Settling Level Probabilities on other pages within this site.
